Diverse ethnic groups’ “movement” has been the basis of humanity's development here since ancient times. Many ethnic cultures migrate to here, through impacts with each other than present a harmonic status at the moment. Among those ethnic groups, my key concept development is based on the earliest Taiwanese aborigines’ Animism. As a matter of fact, Animism is an ancient but advanced system to modern people; however, this system was incorporated into the aborigines’ life a hundred years ago. There are 16 aboriginal tribes in Taiwan and Paiwan tribe is the one that applies Animism among them. Paiwan tribe has lived in Pingtung since ancient times. The tribe does not have its own word characters; its history is recorded in the memory. The seniors pass down the history through word-of-mouth from generation to generation. Paiwan tribe still employs this old and unique worldview (Animism) in their modern life in Taiwan.
Research
The context is formed by subject (time), loading object ( people) and field (land). Books and lands are civilization which are considered as loading objects based on natural materials. I took “Traces left by humans“ as the core of my work that matches two natural loading objects: books and lands. Books leave trace with the time and browse; for example, browsing, touching, moist and different preservation ways, bugs, and marks. People’s feeling lasts in the trace is similar to the development of civilization that leaves trace on the land. These two loading objects interact with respect and intervention with humans to naturally become a harmonic interactive relation.
Development
Lands are the loading objects of civilization, so are books. The progress of civilization leaves natural traces underground, it is more likely because rivers change their way that increases water traces on the ground. These traces is similar to time that are not reversible nature phenomena which have a close relation with our body. When we want to use body movement to reach a certain purpose, we repeatedly move our body which may result in traces on the ground. The traces may be a breach or line. Every repeated line may form some special pictures and those are just from our body. The beautiful and unique lines are thrown from our body which they are accumulated in the course of time and carved on these natural loading objects. I discover that this movement is similar to reading. Various reading movements are accumulated in a long period of time and leave traces on the books with different reading habits from people.
